If you would like an account
In order to add or edit albums, you need to register with Terrapin Tables Photos. Accounts for the main site (for posting new entries) are not the same as the accounts on the photos section, so you'll need to
register with this section of Terrapin Tables in order to have add/edit permissions.
You can register one of two ways:
1) Simply
email me with your desired username, and if I know you, I can create an account for you with a default password, which you can then change upon login.
2) Register yourself - Go back to the main page and hit the "Register" link. After giving yourself a name an password, I will receive an email and will be able to activate your account once I get the email. When registering, it is not required that you give out your email address, but it is suggested in case you lose your password, as you can get it emailed to yourself. Also, providing an email helps me to verify who you are.
Adding albums
The photos section contains albums and sub-albums. The main page (Main Gallery) is actually an album, and all the "Albums" you see are actually sub-Albums of Main Gallery. If you have a set of pictures you want to add, first click on
Add Album to go to the
Album options. If you click Add Items, this will simply add pictures to the Main Gallery, so they will not be organized in any real way.
Once you click
Add Album and are at the
Add Sub-Album screen, fill in the boxes, then hit
Create.
At this point, you will be taken to the Album Settings screen. You'll want to change a couple of settings so that they match the following image:
Once you have that set, hit
Save.
You've now created an album! The next step is to add photos to it. First, click on the album name that now appears in the top left (Next to "Main Gallery >>" ). Then, click Add photo!.
You will notice that there are a number of ways to do this in the tabs up top. Here's a breakdown of each option:
- Recommended Method:
From Web Browser : This allows you to add files from your hard drive. You must add them one-by-one, which can be a pain, but this is still the recommended way. Once nice feature is that you can type the caption in for each photo as you upload it (otherwise if you want captions, you'll have to do this later). Also, you can upload zip files here, and the website will grab the pictures out of it. But it seems that any zip file over a few MB doesn't work, so your mileage may vary.
- From Local Server : This is if you have space on a server (webpage). If you don't have your photos on the web yet, don't use this option.
- From Web Page : Very similar to the previous option, but can be used if your photos are up on another webpage that's not yours. This won't work with most 'dynamic' sites though, but rather if your photos are always at the same URL (that's not generated by a computer). If you don't have your photos on the web yet, don't use this option.
- Windows XP : This is to allow you do download an extention that lets you right-click on your photos on your hard drive and upload them that way.
- Gallery Remote : This is a downloadable Java program. It doesn't work well, and I might take it out.
- Upload Applet : This is a java program that can be used to upload many images at once. I can't get it to work on my PC...
Once you upload your pictures, please check the appropriate settings, then hit
Add Items.
You can click on the album and make sure your pictures are oriented correctly. If not, click on the box below the picture and go to "Edit picture". Once you're done editing, you're all done!
