Dead Tree Crew

Apparently Redskins fans, and NFL fans in general like to have a drink or 10 before the game. From HBO Real Sports. Part 1 & Part 2

There are a ton of pictures, but I'll spare you. Except for this one.

What is that Jim Gaffigan line...something like: "I'm always surprised that people talk about how the kid looks like the parents......yeah, that's the way it works."

The Return

Just like Mr. Tony, I'm coming back. Not to radio, but to Maryland. I took a job with the same company I used to work for in Crofton. New position, career advancement, long term potential, yadda, yadda, yadda.....and a decent amount more money. I start there March 3rd. Denise, Elizabeth and Baby ? will be coming as well, obviously. No more WIP and endless discussion about Donovan F. McNabb.

Good news on that front, however we do have a couple of hangups.

  • A - we have to leave behind the shed. Which, really, was a big deal in deciding to do this. Dumb, I know, but it was a wedding gift - and not a cheap one. So, once we figure out where the hell we're living (another hangup), we'll have people over and feed them booze until they forget about the money they dumped into a shed other people will own.
  • 2 - I now get more Maryland games on TV - which is turning out to be extremely frustrating. Perhaps I'll turn to Chad's impending blog for unbiased commentary - www.deportgreivisvasquez.com
  • C - Oh yeah, and there will be a yet-to-be-named baby involved in all this at some point. Good times.

In summary, rob a friend and BUY OUR HOUSE!

    Blade Runner

"Pistorius’s state-of-the-art carbon fiber prosthetics “should be considered as technical aids which give him an advantage over other athletes not using them.”

While the ruling makes sense to me, it seems to raise the question as to where you draw the line on "performance enhancement." Do you draw the line at prosthetics? What if a knee brace were developed to give an advantage? What about athletic shoes? Isn't asthma medicine a performance enhancing drug?

    Legislative procedure can be funny

Here's a 9 minute video that concerns certain crimes in Texas (which involves what two consenting adults do during their free time). I'm not really posting this to make fun of Texas per se - we can all find clips of that. But there's a very amusing segment at the end that talks about some representative criminalizing sodomy (he only wanted homosexual sodomy to be illegal, but found out that it would be unconstitutional unless he also enforced heterosexual sodomy), and it's amusing. Audio is predictably NSFW. Unless you work in a whorehouse.

    Hey, why not.

From the "hey why not" department, here's the new mayor of Philly doing his best to hold down Sugar Hill Gang. With bonus Questlove turntable goodness...for some reason.

I don't like Philly...at all...but on the upside, this is surely better for street cred than, say, a cracker-ass Irish singer in a town, well, let’s just say I watch a lot of The Wire.

    Served!

Netflix takes your movie reviews (on a 5-star system) and then guesses at movies "you might like." I was just recommended "Stomp the Yard." What the hell did I do wrong? I feel like Netflix just stepped to my face after doing a 720 on its head.

    Fun feature: Google SMS

So Google has a feature available for cell phones. If you send text messages to 'google' (466453) it will reply with useful information. For example, texting "movies 21046" will get you movie listings for Columbia. You can get restaurant listings ("mexican Scottsdale AZ"), directions, and all sorts of other stuff.

Here is a good list of things you can do:
    Google's SMS page

If you text "set location [zip code]" to 466453 it will remember your phone's location for future reference, so you don't have to type it in.

For those who like to talk, there's also GOOG-411, a free 411 service (which will also send you texts of their response if you just say "text message" afterwards).
