Kent Island

Actually, I thought this article was somewhat lacking, and they repeatedly refer to it simply as "Kent." Either way, this appeared in the Post.

Bambi Legg Pilkerton "a tourism department staffer "

They couldn't find ANYONE else? I worked with her at Golden Corrall and while she did well in the tip department, I have to imagine it wasn't for stirring conversation and eastern shore knowledge...

When's the last time any of you guys were on the Island for a day or two? It totally feels like Severna Park anymore. The traffic has really increased in the last two or so years, way too many people, etc. It doesn't feel like a small town anymore, it feels like a boring mid-sized town.

I agree with Chris, the Island isn't exactly sleepy any longer. While it may not be a busy metropolitan area, gone are the days when you really could describe the Island as a small town. I feel like sometime earlier in our lifetime it did qualify as a small town, but it certainly isn't any longer.

Does it seem strange to anyone that Bambi kept a name best known in the county for the drive-thru liquor store? Does she think that such a connection will catapult her to political success like Wheeler Baker?

Oh yeah, and to maintain the rating of this blog, fuck you Chester, Stevensville garnered a mention but you didn't. Ha ha ha. Which of course begs the question, did it ever matter for anything other than postal addresses which "town" you lived in? I guess if they had had their own school then maybe we could have had a rivalry, but instead I guess you Kent island Estates kids got to taunt the Bay City kids, while poor country bumpkins like myself had their "neighborhood" defined by being past the dump on Batts Neck Road.

Wow, this really turned into a McCreary-esque posting, I should really stop now.

Bay City and Kent Island Estates are both in Stevensville. I've lived in both, so...

Chester starts (on the south side) right about where the Acme shopping center ends, and on the north side the road that separates Baker's Liquors from the Methodist Church does the deed ...so Baker's Liquors is Chester, but the Dunkin' Donuts is in Stevensville.

Anyone else seen the new Safeway? Fucking monstrosity. The old Safeway is there, abandoned, and they put up a new huge building between the old Safeway and what used to be Sportsman's.

Mike acts like we totally weren't holding down Goose Point/Batts Neck (well, west of the dump at least). Nik and Eddie would crack skulls if you try to talk shit on their turf.

Kent island is dead. Long live Kent Island.

Don't fuck with Cloverfields, bitches...

I'm pretty sure Cox Creek (hehe, Cox) separates Stevensville & Chester. I think Acme is actually in Chester. You know, if you ever need to know the town where you sit in a parking lot in your giant pickup truck on Friday night. I jsut remember John Hozik living in Chester and he lived right on Cox Creek.

It's different though, Kent Island these days. Can we all just agree to blame the KMart?

So I guess the days of playing "dukes of hazzard" in the ol' hooptie are gone...
