How much?

How much would you have to be paid in order not to have a TV for, say, a year? Or how much would you have to be paid in order not to watch TV for a year? No MD games, no cartoons, no Lost, American Idol, Grey's Anatomy or whatever it is you kids watch these days. I'm not even sure what I'd say. Maybe 20K? And yet all those people do it willingly.

Does this count computers, because I almost never watch my actual television, but I download the shows I like and watch them when I get around to it. So, like, I've seen evry episode of the Office, but never on my television.

And what about video games? Because if I don't get around to God of War II in the next year, well, maybe I'll have led a more enriched life. But I still want to wail on demons with my axe-chain-things.

And what about DVDs? Theatres suck ass.

So gimme Playstation and my computer and this is no big deal. But I imagine I'm probably breaking every rule here.

Well, I gave up TV twice for Lent, and I went without cable for about my first six months down here in Texas. It's not a big deal, but I still prefer to have one (If I had to choose, though, I'd definitely take Internet over TV). Whenever someone brings up the argument that you can get more reading done by not watching TV (like some guy did in that article), I say, so what? It all depends on what you're reading, and what type of channels you're watching. I know a lot of the sci fi I read is no more intellectually stimulating than, say, the National Geographic Channel, and the National Geographic Channel can actually teach me something useful, instead of just escaping to some fantasy land.
