Why the hate?

Adult video store employees have a job that already sucks. Dealing with weirdos, mopping up fluids, and staring at DVDAs all day can really wear you down. I'm speaking from first hand experience here, having managed a video store with a sizeable porn section in the past (over 1000 titles, about 40% of total store business).

So I can say that going Pele on a five-foot-zero, ninety-pound Asian girl so you can grab a handful of Red Light District DVDs ain't a friendly thing to do. Be easy on your local wanketeria clerk, please.

Sidenote - acccording to Wikipedia, the DVDA is a fictional act. I maintain that this has to be bullshit, because if someone's thought about it than it's been filmed. Seriously, if you don't occasionally check out some porn you'd be amazed at what goes on in some of these videos. For example, there's this series (NSFW) and this act, which I have seen on film and which manages to repulse even me. So I know at least one of you (I'm glancing over my shoulder at a certain individual who responds to Noodle) would have seen, downloaded, and archived a DVDA by now. In which case you should hit me up on the AIM and get a file transfer going, because I need somethig to watch while I eat dinner.

I am so glad we have this website. I learn so much. And maybe if they catch that guy, here's hoping he gets the second half of that acronym a time or two in jail.

Yep, first time I read that I thought to myself, how does someone watch a Digital Versatile Disc-Audio (DVD-A)? And then I moused over the Wikipedia link. All I needed.

Learning is fundamental.

Mike, have you been getting into DVD-Audio? I have a couple discs (I can play them on my computer with the bitchin' Klipsch speakers or over my home Polk Audio system) and so far I haven't been moved. I expected a leap like from cassette to CD, but haven't heard it. Maybe that's because all my DVD-A discs are from masters recorded before like 1963 and early recordings are always inherently limited. Stupid bop records.

No, I really haven't, nor have I gotten into SACD. I read an article not too long ago comparing the lackluster interest in high definition DVDs to that shown for so-called high definition audio formats. There's nothing revolutionary about either, most people can't tell the difference, and with competing formats, nobody knows which equipment to buy. The only compelling argument I have for DVD-A is the ability to render surround sound, which I am hopelessly addicted to. Of course I would rather have it in the form of a combined video and audio recording of a concert rather than just audio. I have an awesome DVR recording of a concert from U2's latest tour in high def and full surround sound; on the 100" projection screen its out of this world. Rick, you want to chime in here?

I do have Dark Side of the Moon in 5.1 DVD-Audio. Of course, right now I only have a 4.0 system that I can't make do surround and I never played it on my old system for fear of being let down by the suckage of the old stuff. I suck.
