Well, nothing unexpected. It's just disheartening when these things actually happen, though.
First, in my home state of Texas, Proposition 2 was approved by a whopping margin - 76% to 24%. You know, the one that defines marriage as between one man and one woman. Not just that, but the wording of the ammendment outlaws civil unions, as well.
In Kansas, the state Board of Education passed new science standards that are critical of evolution, and even use a different definition of science than practically every national organization. Their new standards are so bad that "The National Academy of Sciences and the National Science Teachers Association have refused to grant copyright permission to the Kansas State Board of Education to make use of publications by the two organizations in the state's science education standards." (more here) Pharyngula has a good write up on this, so I won't comment any more.
Posted by Fatboy at November 9, 2005 11:27 AMYeah, I've been following that Dover situation for a while, now. The pro-science side pretty much destroyed the pro-ID side in the trial. It's a shame science education has to come down to trials and politics, though.
Posted by: Fatboy at November 10, 2005 01:01 PMOne last thing related to all this, The Diamondback recently published an article on Flying Spaghetti Monsterism. I figured that since it was from the Diamondback, it was relevant enough for TerrapinTables.
