We should try to make it. Seems like something we could get into. We should also attempt moonshine, which I'm sure will be horrible, and mead, which tastes like beer & honey mixed to me.
Posted by: Rick at July 20, 2005 03:23 PMHere's one guy's attempt at making a 9,000 year old beer. It's from back in '94, and I've read it several times, but I still find it interesting.
Yeah, you all should get into homebrewing. I haven't made any beer since the wedding, over a year ago by now, and I've been wanting to get back into it. It's not particularly hard, nor that time consuming, and it's a pretty good self-perpetuating hobby - drink beer while making beer to drink more beer while making more beer...
Posted by: Fatboy at July 20, 2005 05:39 PMAll my old roommates started a brewery in their new house. They have one bottled - an IPA that came out really, really good - and are currently brewing an Irish Stout and a Belgian Trippel. A hop-somethin is in the works. Keep an eye open for the Filthy Cricket brewery.
They get 15 gallons a pop. Start-up costs were $200...so that's about $1.60 per beer for the first batch, not much more than a high-end six pack. Eventually, with bottle-recycling and the minimal overhead, the beers are a few cents each.
Seriously, the IPA was excellent. Your dog wants 15G of Stout.
