Terrapin Tables

Neat artwork. I really like the head he painted on the street sign. And since he was only charged with a misdemeanor, he'll probably be back at it soon.

And I like activists an all, but this part stuck me as a little odd:

It bothers him that those younger than 18 can't vote, "as much as I don't believe in voting or anything." He complained that folks in stores assume "all young people shoplift," and when he's reminded that he himself shoplifts spray paint, he says that's just more evidence of how messed up society is.

Hmm.

Yeah, he seems to be a little lacking in the logic or rationale department. Or maybe it is just creative logic. He does seem to be a creative person. I was an idiot when I was 18. Actually, I continue to be an idiot.

In a dark service corridor of the old DC Convention Center was a 1970s Pepsi machine subtly marked "Cool 'Disco' Dan" in the top left corner. Not that I'm some big graffitti fan, but I knew of CDD's importance in graffitti history - graffiti.org/cdd - and I always thought it was really cool when I walked past the machine. It's long gone now, with the center itself, but it was neat to think a highly revered artist, if he only exists as such within a small community, had the same shitty job that I did.

Minus all the political, contradictory whining, he did some pretty cool stuff. Too bad there isn't a more appropriate place for his kind of art. If he were to put it on canvas, it just kind of loses the "flair". I thought it was pretty neat regardless, although if I were a DC taxpayer, I might feel differently.
