Since we are on the topic of cars, I thought it might be fun to see the biggest POS's that we all ever drove. And I don't care if you drove a pinto once. Something you drove regularly. Mine looked a lot like this, minus the bizarrely placed window halfway down the side:

1984 Pontiac Grand Prix - not exactly like this, but close enough. it really wasn't a shitbox at all...until I ran it into a Ford Escort.
1987 Toyota Corolla SR5 - They list this as a Tercel, but it looks like the same damn thing. Actually bought this the day of our Senior Prom. Big pimpin', I know.
Okay, this one's not the same model year as mine, but it looks pretty close, it's even the same color. All it's missing are the dents, primer, and bondo. I liked that car, though. I wish I still had it. The four wheel drive on it was pretty good, and it hardly ever broke down. Damn truck cutting in front of me on the BW parkway...
Posted by: Fatboy at April 19, 2005 02:39 PMThese aren't my actual cars, but my first car was an old LeBaron that died after two months:

My second car was a new LeBaron that featured a turbo and an all-digital dashboard.
Another car I drove while I was in between cars was a Volvo wagon. Sweet.
My two are a 1979 Chevy Full Size Pickup with non-matching fender and hood, bondo down one entire side, and eventually a homemade paint job with none other than Rustoleum. The second POS of mine was a 1986 Chevy Astro van which had 212,000 miles when I started driving it. Rob Wheeler bestowed on it the moniker of "The Barn" since it had straw and manure in the back with grass growing in it. Runner up to these two was a 1986 Pontiac station wagon that smelled like old milk and was as long as a Suburban.
And let me just say, Nathan, I miss the Belair too, that was an awesome car.
Posted by: Mike at April 19, 2005 03:34 PMa blue, two door 1986 chevy celebrity. owned it for 4 days before getting in an accident which led me to (eventually) replace the passenger door with a red door. god i loved that car.
Posted by: roy at April 19, 2005 04:42 PMFirst there was a 1979 Nissan pickup truck, with one radio station (Gospel), no seatbelts, no air or heat, windows that would randomly drop into the door, and a gas pedal that you'd have to stand on to reach 50 mph, but would then stick so you'd have to ride the brake. I hated that truck.
Then, my baby -- a faded red 1986 Toyota Celica. It wouldn't run in the rain, in the cold, or if I ran the air conditioning. It would also randomly blow large clouds of black smoke and die on me when I hit the gas pedal after stopping at traffic lights. Yet, it always worked perfectly when I took it to the shop. Then a tree fell on it.
Posted by: Katie V at April 19, 2005 05:30 PMI wish I could find a picture of my '67 chevy bel-air. It had to be over 20 feet long...absolutely gigantic. It kind of had a headliner, and the passenger window was held up with screws. Also, it burned oil so bad that I had to add a quart at least once a week. But Chris and I will always have our Dukes of Hazzard moment...that heavy p.o.s sure got up in the air...
Posted by: Nate at April 20, 2005 09:34 AMCame on to see if there was anything special for John's bday, saw this and had to jump in on it...
90 (?) chevy corsica. The #1 cheap rental car in the early nineties. I wrecked the front end, so I had a bent up hood that I "fixed" with a 2 x4 and a mallet. The back end got hit by a truck so my dad replaced the trunk cover with one from a junkyard. Bright turqoise. Went very well with the gray peeling paint eveywhere else. It stayed that way for about 2 months until I spray painted it. The seats also rotted b/c of the Vegas sun (no tint on the windows) so my mom sewed some seat covers except she needed the seats to do it. I drove around for about a month with nothing in the car but the driver seat. One day I drove somewhere. parked. turned the car off. took out the key. got out of the car. locked the car. took about 5 steps before I realized the car was still running. Ended up tearing out the console cover under the steering wheel and having to start / stop the ignition by rigging some wires and switches. That was fine until the window got stuck down. I was working late evenings so I didn't want to go to the parking lot at 11pm and discover my car missing. I took to unhooking a wire in the fuel injector so that even if someone did figure out the ignition, the car still wouldn't start. It stayed that way for about a year until I got rid of it. Oh yeah, and sometimes it would just stall when I was making left turns.
Then I bought my beloved 83 CJ7. Such a good jeep for about 6 years... until it died on me. so sad. Now I drive a '05 Hyundai Elantra. I thought about my jeep today and realized on the way to work today that I am terrified of getting my cream colored pants dirty, I bought myself a diamond ring, and I am wearing a pearl necklace... of the fancy jewelry variety, not of the fun, naughty variety.
When did I become a grown up???
