Here is the Sports Guy's opinion on which year was the best of the past 25. Sure there is a bunch of sports stuff, but there is also alot of pop culture. This may be geared more towards the older patrons of Terrapin Tables, like Rick. Some notes:
- The Bruce Springsteen video featuring Courtney Cox is from this year, which would make her approximately 87 years old.
- Vanessa Williams resigns her Miss America Crown this year, which would make her approximately 88 years old.
- "During the same year -- yes, 1984 -- Rolling Stone was offered the chance to buy MTV, and Sports Illustrated was offered the chance to buy ESPN. Both magazines decided against it."
Eddie Murphy's last season on "SNL." For my money, the most important "SNL" performer ever -- Eddie saved the show and made the most money afterwards. If you disagree, you're a racist and you hate blacks. End of story.
Nice dig at Jason Whitlock.
Posted by: Pat at September 7, 2004 02:29 PMYou think Eddie Murphy has made more money than Adam Sandler? I bet in the next few years Will Ferrell will start encroaching in his total, too. Hell, if Chappelle's Show stays on long enough, Charlie Murphy might even reach Eddie's total...what the hell has Eddie done lately?
Posted by: Chris at September 7, 2004 06:23 PMOkay, so the answer is "yes, yes he has made more money than Adam Sandler, and he's done a shitload lately." I didn't realize just how many kiddie movies he's in now, or that he gets 20 Million for each of them...he even got $10M for voice work in Shrek 2. Re-god-damn-diculous.
Posted by: Chris at September 7, 2004 06:31 PMThere is NO, I mean NO shot Charlie Murphy even sniffs his brother's totals. His movies might stink, but when you play 14 characters in the same movie (Nutty Professor), you are going to get some scratch. Rick James and Prince skits will not make you that kind of money.
Eddie Murphy takes shitty roles (uh, Daddy Day Care), but he is the best part about these movies. The donkey in Shrek is hilarious.
Posted by: Pat at September 8, 2004 08:38 AMAll very good points, but you must account for the fact that Darkness is spreading.
Posted by: John at September 8, 2004 09:54 AMCheers vs. Seinfeld I pick Cheers. Seinfeld might have funnier episodes taken individually, but all the episodes are so similar that I get tired of it once I start watching it regularly. Cheers, though, I could watch in syndication indefinitely.
Posted by: fatboy at September 8, 2004 01:00 PMi've heard many an argument about cheers vs. seinfeld, and i've heard the argument that all the episodes are so similar, but i've never heard the argument that all the seinfeld episodes were so similar.
Posted by: roy at September 8, 2004 04:33 PMNot necessarily the plots, but the type of humor and jokes. Maybe that's the case for all sit-coms, but I just get bored of Seinfeld's the quickest (out of the few that I actually watch- and most of those are animated). Anyway, just my opinion. They're both good shows.
Posted by: fatboy at September 8, 2004 06:14 PMI thought all the Seinfelds were about the same thing: nothing.
Posted by: John at September 8, 2004 06:16 PMOh, and just to note that in that list, Larry B. Scott was mentioned by name. For those that don't know, he played Tasty-Taste in Fear of a Black Hat.
