Preston Little League

Today at 3pm on ESPN, the Preston Little League team attempts to be the fifth team from Maryland to make the Little League World Series. Sure it is just little league, but still kind of neat. Rick's dad lives in Preston (a town of 566 people) and since these kids will go to Colonel Richardson H.S., surely some of us native eastern shore people have played against their relatives in some way, shape or form. Having played lots of Little League, it is ridiculously difficult to be this good. Anyway, figured I would share - I hope they win.

Famous Little League World Series Veterans. And of course, let us not forget, Danny Almonte.

If they're playing Redmond, Washington, then it's a repeat...I watched from the second inning on a few days ago.

I won't spoil it for you, except to say he's not related to DeLino.

Fortunately, it is not a repeat, since they lost that game to the Washington team. Of the population of 566, I would imagine that those of working age, a quarter of them work at the car dealership. I know that my Dad has purchased at least 2 cars from there. Anyway, I wish them luck.

Yeah, they are 1 -1 and have to win today to remain in the thing. Honestly, is there anything else in Preston besides that car dealership and their spokesfrog?

The funny thing is that my dad married into a family that owns a car repair place in Preston, so they compete with the dealership. So I'm not supposed to like "those frog people", which would pretty much alienate me from a lot of Preston folk, if I'd actually cared.

For the record, the dealership's repair place has an excellent towing business. The guy that towed my Honda to Preston not only towed it from the dealership to my dad's wife's place, but he also only charged me like $20 for the whole tow from Denton because he felt I was already down on my luck.

Unfortunately the team from Preston lost today. Apparently, it is possible that if the team from Washington loses tonight and gives up a bunch of runs, the team from Preston could still make it. Oh well, they'll always have the frogs. And they get two days off school.

Maybe they'll get free cars
