X-Prize Update

I'm guessing that everybody's heard of Burt Rutan's spaceship that he's going to try to use to win the $1 million X-Prize. Now, one of the other teams in the competition has announced plans for their launch, right around the same time as Rutan's. It seems though, that this team didn't have enough funding for their launch, until a new sponsor stepped in. So, the team's been renamed from "The da Vinci Project" to the "Golden Palace.com Space Program powered by the da Vinci Project." Those GoldenPalace.com people are everywhere.

I never figured out why the July 21st flight didn't count towards the X-Prize until I just looked it up - the pilot needed the weight of three people on board, not just himself. Well, good for everyone. The competitive nature of this race is the exact reason the X-Prize was set up in the first place. With different teams fighting for the money, we're more likely to see cost-effective solutions to private space travel instead of relying on NASA.
