So apparently this wine consistently beats much more expensive wines in taste tests. Unfortunately it is not available in Maryland. Anyway, I heard a discussion about it on the radio, and it is referred to as Two Buck Chuck. I dunno, it's early.
Posted by John at March 1, 2004 09:12 AMI heard this on the radio this morning too...and I think I would like to drink 2 bottles of it for $5. However, it is no box of wine.
Posted by: Pat at March 1, 2004 10:41 AMMy dad bought some of this wine. Next time I go to PA, I will try it and let you know how it was...or maybe I can bring some back for you. Matt (my husband) heard it tasted like vinegar, though.
Posted by: Shorty at March 1, 2004 12:54 PMHave I been paying for beer all this time when I could've been getting drunk off vinegar?
Posted by: John at March 1, 2004 12:59 PMI read a Reuters story about this wine, and its vineyard, about three months ago. Apparently, as I remember it, this place is about the third largest vineyard in CA, and is its own bottler and distributor. The quality stays the same as most other CA vineyards, but since volume is so high and everything is internal, total cost per bottle to the vineyard is about 10 cents. Word. We should start a brewery...mmm, ten cent beer...
Posted by: Chris at March 1, 2004 09:48 PMI saw two bottles of this stuff at the J's yesterday. I guess I never noticed it until I read that article dealie. Anywho, the J's sister gets the stuff in VA where she lives and brings it up once in a while, so I put an order in and maybe we can get stupid off a couple bottles in the near future. Huzzah!
Posted by: Rick at March 2, 2004 08:59 AMWord to home brewing. I just polished off my latest batch of beer (a hefeweizen this time, strong enough that you feel it after a pint), and I'm going to brew up a brown ale tonight, which'll be ready in two weeks. And Irma's making a White Zinfandel- $25 of ingredients for six gallons of wine.
Posted by: Fatboy at March 2, 2004 11:33 AMFatboy you complete pimp. I am on such a Brown Ale kick right now - Tilburg's Dutch Brown, Brooklyn Brown, I just got a case of Red Hook Nut Brown (thanks Nate). Let me know how it comes out.
