Big thanks to Roy, John and Mike for their hospitality during yesterday's Super Bowl. The game was one of the best (how does he kick that ball out of bounds!), food was good, and it was nice to see everyone. Thinking back about the commercials from last night, I guess I wasn't terribly impressed. No monkeys on trash cans with old men clapping or anything. Here is a site that has all of them. Any of them that particularly stuck out like Janet Jackson's boob? And a quick comment from Stewart Mandel at S.I. - "That in the world of advertising dollars, male dysfunction suddenly has eclipsed collect calls, and it's sneaking up on overnight delivery."
On another note, for those of us who have watched many superbowls for the game itself, what about the thought that this might have been the best superbowl ever? Discuss amongst yourselves...
Posted by Pat at February 2, 2004 09:35 AMI thought the super bowl was awesome. Tough defense early, big plays at crucial times, and mucho mucho drama towards the end. I'm still partial to the Bills-Giants super bowl, but this one is right up there.
Posted by: Nate at February 2, 2004 09:38 AMI'll agree with Nathan, the drama down the stretch most definitely kept everyone's attention. I'm not quite sure I'm willing to vote it as the best ever, but it surely deserves consideration.
Thanks to everyone who came to the party, I hope everyone had a good time. Anyone want to help me design stadium seating for the apartment so next time we don't have people sitting on the floor for the entire game?
Posted by: Mike at February 2, 2004 10:04 AMI think it is probably a top 5 game. Granted, we were not around for the older games, but looking at the boxscores nothing seemed that stellar. Even the 3 point Super Bowl V was decided at the start of the 4th quarter. Frankly, some of the best superbowls (except for the redskins victories) have come in the last 5 years. Rams/Titans, Pats/Rams, Pats/Panthers. And of course, the Bills/Giants in '91.
Posted by: Pat at February 2, 2004 10:34 AMdefinately one of the best super bowls i've seen. probably the best i saw was giants-bills, though i didn't really watch football back then so i didn't get it. rams-titans, pats-rams and pats-panthers would be my next three. last night's game was weird. absolutely no offense early, a midgame flurry, hibernation and then a heck of fourth quarter. fox going for 2 early and kasay kicking the ball out of bounds.
oh and for the record, the most dominating performance i ever saw in the super bowl was 49ers over the chargers (i don't remeber the 49ers broncos blowout). that 94 niners offense was magnificent and it shined.
Posted by: Roy at February 2, 2004 10:52 AMI remember the 49ers/Bengals game vividly. We were living in Germany and my Dad (who is a 49ers fan) and I were up really late/early watching it. Montana engineering that last minute drive....Montana to Taylor...probably my favorite memory.
Posted by: Nate at February 2, 2004 11:24 AMApparently I am an idiot, I think that Super Bowl V win came with 5 seconds left. Silly me for not realizing this was hockey and we are recording time backwards with regards to scoring. Meh, screw it, I wasn't alive.
Posted by: Pat at February 2, 2004 02:31 PMThis was the first time I've watched the half time show ever, and I was rewarded with nudity. Good times. And the game was good, too, though this was the only NFL game I watched in its entirety all season, so...
