Booooooo-urns

Well, well, well, well, well...in my opinion, we should have won last night. We didn't play well. They didn't play well. But they played 8 points better. You take away 4 of those deep 3's they hit, make them 2's, and the game is suddenly even closer. There are some things you just can't defend on defense. 23' jumpers you can't do anything about. But get a damn rebound! Luckily, we didn't have to listen to Dukie V, and instead got to listen to Chris Knoche and his innuendos about the "godless bastard" referees. Meh, screw it, Duke sucks, we hate you and your ferrety looking coach. And my head hurts.

In other news, ESPN debuted it's Page 3. Personally, I don't care for it (leave sports as sports, not gossip and celebrity crap). But, one of the writers is doing a Simpsons' Top 100 Sports Moments. I just figured I would share. It makes me laugh.

rebound rebound rebound. and we were tight early and missed so close shots. the atmosphere at cornerstone was pretty solid right up until the end. word is that maryland might not be a tournament team if we don't go .500 in conference. discuss.

It depends on who those losses come against, I think. If we lose to the non tourney teams (FSU!), then we probably won't make it. I think loses to UNC and Duke and Wake on the road, if close, aren't deal breakers. 8-8 is looking tough right now. Our RPI is 31, not bad, but losing to WVU will not look good on the resume come March.

"Get a fucking board!" was yelled many times last evening.

They'll be fine if they go .500 maybe one game under. They have already beaten 3 teams in the top twenty. Now if all those teams fall off, of course it won't look that good.
I am not sure Strawberry looked 100%, but I loved that clip of him guarding Reddick. Were Reddick to have to make a living guarded by DJ, Strawberry would beat up Reddick, take his lunch money, slip a blunt in his pocket and drop him off at the police station in a bonnet and a sun-dress.

Florida lost last night, much to my displeasure. They were #1 and will probably be #20-25 this week. Is the RPI calculated like the BCS, where we "lose" points the worse they get? Or do we get credit for playing them as they were at the time?

...and then Darryl would bail him out, take him to the Neverland ranch, and smoke the blunt with him.

Well, I think we need to get to 8-8 to be garunteed a spot. We also have to cheer for teams like Gonzaga to win their conference's automatic bid - so they don't take up an at-large spot. If we are 7-9 its still very possible, but not a certainty... I think our non-conference schedule should definitely could for something. And I definitely don't think there are 65 better teams than Maryland - but then again, I am not in charge of things.

Anyway - this is the rest of the schedule:
@ Clemson (Win)
@ Wake (Lose)
NCSU (Win)
@ UVA (Win)
FSU (Win)
@ UNC (Lose)
Tech (?)
@ Duke (Lose)
Clemson (Win)
Wake (?)
@ NCSU (?)
UVA (Win)

So we have to win one of those '?' games to get to 8-8... and of course we can't lose games we should win (i.e. FSU... still pissed about that one).

blah.

good point about hoping teams that would get an invite earn an automatic bid. ah, how i yearn for the good ol days when we bitched about being a top 3 all the way out west.

with the discussion of finishing high in the acc and strength of schedule and blah blah blah, i'm not sure if this is good for us, but i'm still happy about it!

Chad and I were just discussing if this is good or bad. I have no idea. UNC lost so that sucks since we beat them, although losing to us coupled with beating UConn moved them up in the rankings. FSU won, so maybe that is ok since they beat us...but isn't it just balancing the equation since they lost to UVA the other day. Bizarre...I think our best bet is for everyone to finish in the middle of the road and then we might get some props for beating top 15 teams.

If Maryland goes 7-9 and doesn't make the tournamnet I will be disappointed. I expect Wisconsin and WVU to do well in conference. How can Gonzaga's record not go up? They play a bag of doorknobs every regular season. If UNC manages to finish 2nd or 3rd in the ACC and we have one win against them and one more win against a top 3 ACC team while holding .500 amongst the middle of the road ACC teams. I would think we will be fine.

I agree that even if we are 7-9 we should get in. But, every year the committee does something that I don't agree with, so who knows? If we finish 7-9 and then lose in the first round of the ACC tounry -- then that could be bad. It might come down to if we can win one or two in the ACC tourny. It shouldn't have to come to that with our quality wins so far.... but you never know...
