Just so something's on the damn site...

I am sure you all know about this already - but we are getting new uniforms in football and will be part of under armour's national advertising campaign. Now Roy can protect this house at least 6 times a year.

And on an unrelated topic - John, Roy, Pat and I have already been discussing this article about Brett Farve last week in the Philadelphia Daily News. It is, um... something....

Wow, what a fu*&in' prick. It's not enough that the Eagles beat them, but this guy has to go dig all the skeletons not only out of his, but his whole family's closet. Lots of class there.....

Yeah, it made me uneasy. I imagine you could write a similar article about alot of football players if you dug hard enough. Dig out their skeletons and then piss on them.

I would like to know what the guy was proving by writing it. And you can find that kind of dirt about anyone. I'm just curious as to why he would hang his family out there like that. Was it that he could sink to the lowest common denominator? If so, congratulations.

In his defense, the article was written last week, so it wasn't "we beat them and look what kind of dirt there is here too". I think the writer was fed up with the "Favre is great, we should feel for him" talk. That being said, I think Pat's right, you could do this kind of thing for a whole bunch of people. I don't think drudging up one's family's skeletons is relevant - I sure hope people don't judge/praise/criticize me on the basis of the actions of others, be they family or otherwise. On top of that, I don't think drudging up his skeletons is relevant either. Both the content and the style of the writing is indicative of the writer's lack of taste and sophistication. If he wanted to say we shouldn't put Favre the person on a pedastal there are much more tactful (if not more .effective) ways to do it

Certainly could have taken him off of that pedestal based on that last "pass" he threw to a wide open Dawkins. I saw it again at lunch time. "What was he thinking?" (said like Bill Walton)

Won't is cease to be "under" armor...is it now just "armor?" Will the "Protect this House" nonsense likewise expand, into something like:

"Will you protect this cul-de-sac?"
"I fully intend on it."
Under-and-Over Armor...huzzah.

Regarding the article...that "evil" Favre stuff isn't even that bad. I fart, have had a lot worse drugs than Vicodin, argue with women and fight men, play pranks on friends, and if I were a living-legend athlete, I hope I could remain humble enough to accept cameo movie roles as lowly as a spurned lover or a janitor. See, Philadelphia always pulls this kind of shit. I really hate that city. If it weren't for Prof. Levy, the Haverford crew, and the white pizza at By George's in the Reading Terminal, I would say nothing good ever came from there.

And since I'm on a role, look at the two people Philly - as a city - reveres most. Ben Franklin, a guy that used to throw orgies regularly, and Walt Whitman (there's a bridge), a guy who was openly gay - so much for Favre's wuss factor - and, near as I can tell, never set foot in Philadelphia. Lucky bastard.

Yes Pat, it was an awful play. At least people are admitting it and criticizing Favre for it; some saying that even if a rookie made that throw you'd be disappointed. Interestingly enough, the article did not criticize Favre's play and his propensity for interceptions.

I'll not dignify Chris's rant with a response.

Yay Rants! Now for one slightly off topic:

I wish that people would stop confusing knowledgable fans with passionate or zealous fans. Now obviously there are going to be generalizations and exceptions, but when I think of knowledgable fans at a game, I don't think of Yankees fans or Raiders fans. Beating up fans of the opposing team, or booing a player injured on the field are tasteless acts no matter what. I was impressed with the Chiefs crowd this weekend, louder than any outdoor stadium I have ever heard, markedly quieter when the Chiefs were on offense. These strike me as the type of fans that might be knowledgable. I suppose as the players' attitude on the field becomes more confrontational, the fans' attitude may follow in kind. However, at every mention of Santa Claus being booed, or an injured player being booed, or batteries and beers being tossed, I feel that fans carry those actions with a sense of pride, and feel obligated to live of to their notorious reputations.

Well, I do have to admit -- booing Michael Irvin when he was being carted off the field with a broken neck was probably the moment where I hold Philly fans in the highest regard. I remember giving that moment a standing ovation in JO's room. God I hated that crack-fiend.

I rest my case.

No. That guy was a piece of monkey-poop. And I emphasize monkey. He deserved it. Its just too bad he isn't in a wheelchair for life.

Has anyone seen Michael Irvin on the Sunday NFL Countdown Show? I always feel like him and Steve Young are going to get into it.

Mormon Lawyer vs. Loudmouth Crackhead -- fight to the death. Mills Lane officiates...

Let's get it on

Steve Young is ok, he always seems like he's in a hurry to say something and never gets it out right. Irvin is god-awful. I miss Sterling Sharpe.

Posted by: Roy at January 13, 2004 11:44 AM

Young is too excitable, like a kid...I think he's having too much fun. Sharpe rules, too bad NFL Network got him. Irvin is horrible, and no one is arguing.

I think Tom Jackson is really underrated...he makes great observations, and if it weren't for that ridiculous "Jacked Up" nonsense, I think he'd be my second favorite TV football guy to Berman.

Posted by: Chris at January 13, 2004 09:03 PM

Berman has to lose some of the names. If I hear Jake "daylight come and me wanna go" Delhomme one more fucking time...

Jackson is good, and "Jacked up" is awful. The segments of Berman and Jackson are their best.

Did anyone hear Shannon Sharpe's cell phone go off during his CBS appearance last weekend? Classic.
