So the insurance company just called me. The cost to fix the Mini is fast approaching $20,000, so they're totaling it. They're cutting my bank a phatty check which covers all but a few more payments that I'll have to make.
So anywho, I now need a new car. If anyone has any ideas for a fast car under $25K, let me know. Preferably one with plastic bumpers, and it would also be nice if it came with some anti-crash technology that has yet to be invented.
Posted by Rick at January 8, 2004 10:39 AMWhy don't you look into a nice, slow car with a tight turning radius and good brakes.
Posted by: John at January 8, 2004 11:33 AMI'll sell you my Explorer. Roy will throw in an espresso. $25,000 is fine by me. I accept cash only.
Posted by: Pat at January 8, 2004 11:56 AMhell to get my 2% agent's fee, i'll throw in an espresso, a turtleneck, and a bag of soccer balls. seriously rick, everyone returns to hondas, you should too.
Posted by: Roy at January 8, 2004 12:16 PMGet a sebring dude, mine is fully loaded and it was just over 23K....0-60 in 6.8sec if you get the 3.0L v6
Posted by: nate at January 8, 2004 01:09 PMWhat's the best mix of handling and performance at 25k? The WRX? And that's a kid's car...plasticy...we've been over it. If I didn't feel like a high-schooler driving it I'd have one. And, evidence suggests "fast" is about the last adjective you should be looking for in a ride.
You can buy something a year old at crazy savings, especially now that everyone is buying new. $25k will probably get you a $32-35k '02 car in perfect shape.
How much is that Acura RSX? that Toyota S-2000 dealie? that doggie in the window?
Posted by: Chris at January 8, 2004 02:05 PMYeah, right now I'm looking at the RSX. 200hp 6-speed, and I found a used one with very low mileage. And since it's made by Honda I know it'll hold up. Unless I run it into a wall.
Posted by: Rick at January 8, 2004 02:12 PMwhich you will do
Posted by: Nate at January 8, 2004 02:16 PMIsn't Acura made by Toyota?
Posted by: Nate at January 8, 2004 02:46 PMNo, Acuras are just Hondas with different logos on 'em. Acuras outside the U.S. don't even bother replacing the logos, and they're all known as Hondas (thanks to Fatboy for that bit of info).
Posted by: Rick at January 8, 2004 02:57 PMGotcha...I'm soo easily confused
Posted by: Nate at January 8, 2004 03:07 PMGet an RX-8. Not quite as fast as the -7, but still respectable. Plus the smooth ride of a rotary engine.
Posted by: Fatboy at January 8, 2004 04:09 PMFatboy, didn't you say that you wouldn't buy an RX-8? I'm sure its in this sites archives somewhere.
Posted by: John at January 8, 2004 04:25 PMEverybody keeps sugesting these nice sports coups, but wouldn't it make more sence for you to get a 1984 Volvo station wagon. It's slow, so you'll be much less likely to wreck it. It's also a tank, so if you do wreck it, you won't get hurt as bad. Plus you won't care that much about it if you do total it.
Posted by: Blough at January 8, 2004 04:43 PMI said I wouldn't buy an RX-8 as a replacement for the RX-7. However, I would still like to have one to have a four seater. Me and Irma have even considered trading in the Mercedes for one, but it wouldn't really lower payments any, and it's just a hassle to buy a new car.
