After going out and watching the new Matrix last week (which was pretty good, by the way), I thought it was interesting to come across this article in Nature. A few scientists are getting ready to put computer chips in the brains of quadripalegics to sense some of their brain signals and use that to control a mouse to give them control of a computer. If the trial goes well, the approach might eventually be used to control other devices, like prosthetics or wheelchairs.
Posted by Fatboy at November 10, 2003 12:43 PMOf course this story will renew the efforts of idiots around the world to have my office remove the chip from their head. I of course would like to tell them that its behind their left ear and if they're careful, they can remove it with an Xacto knife.
Posted by: Mike at November 10, 2003 01:11 PMHow did Nature find out about the machine? Perhaps Rupert has been leaking out the results of my research. I've paid good money to keep it undercover, and by god he'll rue the day he crossed me.

It was that steward wasn't it? The one who looks like Tad Hunter.
