RX-8

My car's broken again, and since I'm so much busier with work now than I was in D.C., it got me thinking about replacing the RX-7 with something more reliable. So I test drove the RX-8, and it was a big disappointment. Nowhere near the performance of the 7. So any reviews that you read that say the 8 has plenty of power are not true. Just thought I'd share that in case anyone was thinking about rushing out and buying one, like I was.

Give me the RX-7. I don't care if it's broken. I'll just sit in it and make vroom noises.

Although I wasn't looking to buy one, thanks for the tip. Have you looked at the 350Z? Fifty more HP than the RX-8 and twice the displacement. Same price range as well. Other than that, I've got nothing. To get even 200hp from a Mini, you need a $4,400 supercharger and a $6,000 upgrade kit.

Don't even consider a Mini, Fatboy. We can make all the gay jokes on our own.

How about this? Time to settle down, family man. Just kidding.

The Z may be a good car, but I want something unique, too. The RX's have rotary engines- so that's cool. The Subaru WRX STi has four wheel drive, and it's race proven- so that's cool. The Z is just a Nissan that looks a lot like a Porsche, with conventional everything- not as cool.

And it's hard to compare displacement between a rotary and a boinger. Something about rotaries delivering two power pulses to the drive shaft per revolution per rotor, while boingers only deliver one power pulse to the drive shaft every other revolution per cylinder. And because rotaries are more balanced, they can operate at higher rpms, also meaning more power.

The RX-8 was for settling down. It's a four seater- so there's room for the kids in the back.

It's too bad you need a new car now. I have vague aspirations of having one of these in a few years.

Yeah, I don't think I am going to replace my car. Even though working on it's a pain in the ass, it's a lot cheaper than a new car. And I've already done some customization to it, so it's got a special place in my heart.

Yo Goodyear, you don't want an STi...it's a full-on racer, Fast and Furious style. There is no radio, a/c, etc. It's to WRXs as the Cobra R is to regular Mustangs. There's also a waiting list about 4 months deep (as of July).
And the regular WRX, which I almost got a few months ago, still has the plasticy car-for-college-students feel to it. Even though I specifically got my Outback for college, you see where I'm going with that.
Doesn't Acura have some new car that hauls ass in a leather interior, gas mileage sort of way? And check out their TSX, Jeff...it's sweet, if you're into the Japanese sports-sedan dealies. Not quite rubber burning, though.

Well, I'm definitely keeping my car. I took a look at it, and the only thing wrong was the radiator. The stock radiator has plasitc ends, that tend to crack and leak, which mine did. So, I bought an upgrade Koyo radiator, which is not only all aluminum for better durability, but has more capacity for better cooling in the 115º summers we have down here in Texas. So, one more mod to my car to improve its reliability. Hopefully it won't break again any time soon.

oh yeah, this is the best family guy quote so far:
