Just got back from Key West and I'm sure you're wondering if I had a good time. Well, I'm having a hard time recalling everything but here goes.
I saw two of the most beautiful beaches
I got a splinter - 50 feet out in the ocean
I saw houses with porches and palm trees
I got so disgusted at the Margaritaville Cafe that I vowed never to set foot in there again...and then promptly broke that vow
I met a bartender who grew up near where my mom was born in South Africa
I met a guy who lived most of his life not 20 minutes from where I was born in Israel
I met a guy with the coolest Hawaiian shirt. He was from Hawaii, of all places.
I found out what college-chick bartenders read when business is slow: Crime and Punishment
I rode a bicycle without killing anyone (when we were shopping around to rent bikes, one place was going to charge us $18 for the day, actual response from paige: "18 dollars? That's like 4 drinks.")
I went into a clothing optional bar...unknowingly, and saw all i needed to see to get the hell out of there right away
I had a drunk ask me what I thought about "that gulf war" and then proceed to tell me he doesn't talk politics
I heard a band of all black men sing "play that funky music white boy"
I heard a band play "god's own drunk"
I was invited to swing dance by dueling piano players
I sang at Captain Tony's
I lied about being in military
I bought rum from a liquor store that closes at 4 a.m.
I did shots with the girlfriend of the grandson of Captain Tony. The grandson wasn't available, he's up in Marathon Key (read: jail) for the next 40 days
So yeah, I had a damn good time.
Posted by Roy at July 21, 2003 01:16 PMWow, that sounds like a good time. Yeah, I found a Margaritaville something-or-other bar in Jamaica, only to learn that trademarks don't mean anything outside the U.S., so that's why you'll find sub-par ripoffs out there. And a clothing-optional bar, eh? Nice. But yeah, sounds like you had a good time. We got wasted and fell down this weekend, that's about it.
Posted by: Rick at July 21, 2003 02:03 PMWow...there are so many ways I hate you right now Roy. Sounds like you had a good time though. As Rick stated, we got wasted, and I literally did fall down, in some mud. Oh, and did you swing dance as invited by dueling piano players?
Posted by: Pat at July 22, 2003 08:37 AMdid i swing dance? you bet i did! you may be asking why someone with my, um, grace, would be invited to swing dance. answer: i think the piano players took a liking to paige
